Britons will be driving more than two billion miles this Christmas visiting family and friends, reveal new statistics by Post Office Car Insurance.
More than 25 million Brits are set to drive an average of 81 miles each over the festive season - enough in total to take them to Saturn and back almost twice, more than two billion miles from Earth. Amazingly, 70% of those aged 30 to 50 will be on the road at some point over the festive season. Despite the galactic odyssey ahead, many drivers are unprepared for their Christmas pilgrimages with nearly a quarter of drivers saying that they fail to have their car serviced regularly. Mike Smith, Head of Marketing at Post Office Ltd’s financial services arm said, “Christmas is still very much a family affair and we’re all willing to travel long distances to get home. But with the majority of the population on the road over this period, motorists need to make sure they’re insured and covered for breakdowns, the last thing you want is to spend Christmas alone on the hard shoulder!” Consumers can apply for car insurance by telephone on 0800 169 6500 or online at www.postoffice.co.uk/motor.
