Some mobile phones contain arsenic, mercury and other dangerous toxic substances. In particular, mobile batteries contain Cadmium, a dangerous toxic and carcinogenic substance. When a significant quantity is leaked into surrounding soil; in the medium and long term, toxic contamination is formulated.

It has been reported that there are 45 million phone users in the UK and this number is steadily increasing. 58 million replacement phones are sold in the EU every year with 85 million unused phones lying around in the home. (Communities-dominate.blogs.com, Jan 2008) Femalefirst.co.uk (2008) stated that there are three times more mobile phones than automotives or personal computers worldwide, and nearly twice as many mobile phones in use as TV sets.
